According to: this article Texas has now legalized open carry of knives.  If you are over the age of 18, after September 1st, you will be able to openly carry a knife over 5 1/2 inches.

This is all according to House Bill 1935.

Please note, this bill does not change your ability to carry a club:

SECTION 4.  Section 46.02(a), Penal Code, is amended to read
as follows:
       (a)  A person commits an offense if the person:
             (1)  intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries
on or about his or her person a handgun[, illegal knife,] or club;
and
             (2)  [if the person] is not:
                   (A) [(1)]  on the person’s own premises or
premises under the person’s control; or
                   (B) [(2)]  inside of or directly en route to a
motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the
person’s control.

So after September 1st, you can carry large knives in Texas, but not a ‘club’ such as a large stick or baseball bat?

Please also note, this applies to schools as well:

SECTION 5.  Section 46.03(a), Penal Code, is amended to read
as follows:
       (a)  A person commits an offense if the person intentionally,
knowingly, or recklessly possesses or goes with a firearm, [illegal
knife,] club, or prohibited weapon listed in Section 46.05(a):
             (1)  on the physical premises of a school or
educational institution, any grounds or building on which an
activity sponsored by a school or educational institution is being
conducted, or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or
educational institution, whether the school or educational
institution is public or private, unless:
                   (A)  pursuant to written regulations or written
authorization of the institution; or
                   (B)  the person possesses or goes with a concealed
handgun that the person is licensed to carry under Subchapter H,
Chapter 411, Government Code, and no other weapon to which this
section applies, on the premises of an institution of higher
education or private or independent institution of higher
education, on any grounds or building on which an activity
sponsored by the institution is being conducted, or in a passenger
transportation vehicle of the institution;

So you may carry licensed in the schools… but, once again, no club is allowed?

What is the legal definition of a club?

GREAT QUESTION!  Lets look at the penal code!

Sec. 46.01. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter:

(1) “Club” means an instrument that is specially designed, made, or adapted for the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by striking a person with the instrument, and includes but is not limited to the following:

(A) blackjack;

(B) nightstick;

(C) mace;

(D) tomahawk.
